The Vice President for Administration & Planning serves
as the President's chief of staff and has responsibility for the
following additional
functions:
Board of Trustees
Providing oversight and administrative support for the Board of
Trustees, which establishes policies for the governance of the
University and oversees management of the institution. The major
responsibilities of the Board include 1) advancement of the University;
2) protection and enhancement of assets; 3) preservation of institutional
integrity; 4) Board/President relations; and 5) functioning of
the Board.
Strategic Planning
Identifying and prioritizing issues of strategic importance to
the institution, creating processes that foster and facilitate
the integration of academic and administrative unit-level plans
and institutional resource allocation into comprehensive strategic
action, and enhancing communication of central administrative
intent and direction to the University community.
Program Review
Providing administrative oversight for a multi-faceted process
that systematically evaluates each of the University's academic
and administrative unit at least once every seven years, synthesizing
results, and following through to monitor and assist units as
they implement recommendations.
Institutional Research
Conducting analytical and policy studies that support decision-making and planning across the University. Partner with other offices at NU in projects that assess institutional effectiveness and progress toward University goals. Monitor emerging issues through environmental scanning and involvement in national organizations. Participate in data sharing through consortia. Continually seek to improve access to data for decision-making.
Special Projects
Undertaking special initiatives that do not fall within the purview
of another administrative area, such as management of executive
searches, design and implementation of cross-unit programs, and
nomination of faculty for national honorary society membership.
